Generally speaking, I am not a huge fan of change. Spontaneity does not come very easily to me and even slight changes in plan will usually have me spending a disproportionate amount of time pep-talking myself into being okay with the new plans.
This weird playbook kind of goes out of the picture when it comes to skincare and beauty products. I LOVE trying out new things and while I won’t buy every shiny new thing that drops in the market, I do buy a fair number of new products.
And then there is this other matter of being not all that very consistent with using up the products that I have, especially when it comes to makeup products. Thing is, depending on the season of my life, I go through phases where I can go for weeks (and sometimes even months) without using even a smidgen of makeup on my face.
Long story short, most skincare and beauty products last me for AGES! It’s very, very rarely that I find a product that a) actually runs out, and also b) is fantastic enough to repurchase. The ones that tick both these boxes are obviously rather special. So here’s a short roundup of the 5 products in my skincare and beauty collection that I’ve actually repurchased a few times over the years.
Forest Essentials happens to be one of my all-time favourite skincare brands and over the last 4-5 years of using their products, there have been very few which have not hit the mark as far as I am concerned. This tiny little serum bottle is a mighty one, and I am currently on my third bottle.
It’s a lightweight serum, and it’s a nifty little thing for a hydration boost. As per the brand’s website “it is inspired by the ancient Indian ritual of Ushapana, which means the first drink of early morning water, the life-giving nectar of life.”
On most days, it’s literally the first thing I apply to my face after my morning shower. It sinks into the skin super quickly and does not leave behind any residue. The brand recommends following it up with Tejal Balancing Water which I am not really strict about. Even by itself, I’ve found the serum to be extremely effective and it definitely makes my skin feel hydrated and nourished.
Unlike a lot of Forest Essentials products, there is no discernible fragrance to this serum – fragrance is not something that bothers me, but just putting it out there for the ones who care. It wears well under makeup and I think it forms the perfect nourishing base for whatever skincare or makeup routine that you follow.
This is the lipstick that started it all. It was probably the first lipstick that made me feel good. Before I discovered this specific lipstick shade, I used to wear lipstick very rarely and even then, it was more of an obligatory swipe of color.
With the Velvet Teddy, I found my near-perfect beauty product alter ego. It was subtle, non-shiny, and effective. With a swipe of Velvet Teddy on, I feel just a little bit more polished and put together.
In a world where most of my beauty/makeup products just do not seem to hit the bottom of the tube/pan/bullet/bottle, I am on my third purchase of the Velvet Teddy, so that’s certainly saying something about my love for this lipstick.
While I love Jo Malone fragrances in general, I find most of them fare rather poorly on longevity. That’s not a problem with this one for sure. To date, this remains the ONLY perfume that I have ever repurchased.
This perfume reads as homage to India and is probably one of the bestsellers in the country. It comes across as a sensual floral scent and invokes a heady sense of the flower markets that are popular all over the country.
It’s actually unlike any other perfume that I’ve ever tried. Jasmine by itself is a popular enough ingredient in perfumes but it’s the combination with marigold that really sets this perfume apart. The combination results in an intense floral fragrance which is at once sexy and sophisticated without being overpowering.
This Origins mask was actually one of my first few purchases when I got initiated into this world of skincare and beauty.
Suffice to say, four years on, I continue to be in love with this mask. I really love me a good mask and if I am in a good mood, Friday night masking is a thing in my life (I knowwwwww, my life is super exciting!!!). I am on my third tube of this mask and it’s one of the best things for my skin when it is freaking out.
The ingredient list of this product makes it a super warrior when it comes to the occasional zits that pop up or blemishes. It does smell a bit funky from the sulphur but after having used it for so long, I really don’t mind it at all. The camphor in the product lends a cooling feeling, which after a long day does feel comforting.
My combination skin handles the mask quite well, and I don’t really find it drying as a lot of reviewers seem to mention online. I’ve even used it as a spot treatment, and it really does dial down the redness of angry zits very effectively.
I’ve tried a lot of Vitamin C serums over the years and have also documented that here on the blog. And I still stand behind what I wrote nearly two years ago:
“My absolute favourite Vitamin C serum that I have tried would have to be the Ole henriksen Truth Serum, and if I am prepping for a big event, or if I am travelling, I would pick the Clinique Daily Booster.“
Truthfully, the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum has been the only Vitamin C product that I have repurchased and it’s not lost the least bit of its charm. It’s a lightweight serum, and I love its subtle citrusy smell. It feels gentle yet effective – I think it would work well even for sensitive skin types, which is not some thing I can say for a lot of other Vitamin C serums (here’s looking at you, Kiehl’s).
I love how my skin looks and feels when I am using the Truth Serum regularly.
