Woah! It’s a been a hot minute and a half since I’ve written here. Before brushing the (figurative) cobwebs around this place, I was thinking that it’s been maybe 4 months since I last posted. But no, you guys, it’s been 6 months and then some! Damn!

Anyway, it’s the second week of 2019, and in the spirit of all things new year and stuff, I wish I could tell you “new year, new me” and all that jazz, but since that’s ridiculously far from the truth, so I might as well greet you with “new year, still same old me, with scope for improvement forever”.

Now, since it’s been a while, let’s catch up a bit, shall we?

Looking back at 2018 – Thank You, Next

It was a year of…

… reading 38 40 books in all (mostly during my commute and on flights)

… decluttering and re-cluttering my wardrobe way more times than I’d like to admit

… crying copious tears while watching Call Me By Your Name

… realising that 4DX movies are just not my thing (what’s with those moving chairs!!!!!)

… celebrating the husband’s birthday by chilling in the pool with friends for 5+ hours

… failed attempts at swinging from a tree

… wading through high tide to reach our home for the night in Sri Lanka (a metaphor for the year gone by if there ever was one)

… celebrating the start of my brother’s and my sister-in-law’s next phase of life

… drinking home-brewed beer at my brother’s place

… realising that there is more to Mexican food than tacos, guac and chips, and enchiladas

… experiencing a temazcal ceremony in Mexico with my most favourite person in the world

… falling in love with Mexico in general and Merida in particular

… trying to get physically stronger (100 kg deadlift PR, I am coming for you in 2019!)

… inconsistent exercise and food habits

… exploring Seoul over a weekend by myself

… catching up with old friends over 3 bottles of wine (between mostly 2 people!) and spilling red wine on their blue couch

… making an old friend fall in love with one of my favourite new cities

… ever-changing and last minute travel plans

… re-discovering and falling in love with old Bengali songs

… frustrations at work because nothing seemed to be changing or moving

… watching Hamilton (finally!)

… reintroducing fish more regularly in my diet

… finally being able to send care packages to my four dearest school friends

… buying a gazillion cookbooks but never really cooking anything from them

… catching up with the extended family a few times

… feeling proud of the husband for his professional and fitness gains

… realising the power and meaning of moon phases

… finally learning to love and apply makeup

… discovering the treasure-trove (and bank balance-depleter) that is YouTube makeup tutorials

… making a new online friend (hi, Viktoria!)

… connecting deeper with some old friends

… reveling in the small pleasure that is watching a movie at the theatre with my 85+ years old grandmother

… not completing a single memory keeping project

… losing our beloved family pet, Floppie

… an unbelievable number of long, long showers

… struggling to find peace and happiness within myself

… realising that I’ve let my laziness get in the way of pursuing things that make me happy and my hobbies (this blog included!) for just too long now

… feeling not enough

… knowing that I can do much better.

Looking Ahead at 2019

I have high hopes for this year, like I do for almost every year :). This is going to be the year of action, of getting things done, of treating myself and my loved ones with more respect and care, of creating new things, of moving into a new house, of connecting better with friends and family, of making photos more often, of spending more intentionally, of making better health choices, and of rediscovering happiness within myself.

I hope and pray that you all have come into the new year with renewed vigor, and even more zest for life, and that 2019 is going to be a year of growth, transformation and happiness for all of us.

If you’re keen to share, I’d love to know how your last year went, and what you’re looking forward to in 2019? And if you’re reading this, please know that I am ever so grateful to you for taking the time to read through my ramblings.

Happy New Year, friends, and borrowing some words from my friend – “may we collectively be more badass this year than ever before!”

I loved how you included small and big and good and bad things in your yearly review. It made for a really nice read. My 2018 was quite big and hectic with loads of life changes and travels. So I am hoping that 2019 will be the year where I take it easy and process it all.

Thank you so much, Lizzy, for taking the time to read and for your comment. :)

It does seem like you had lots going on in 2018, and change is not always the easiest. I take forever to wrap my head around changes, and as much as I love travel, I crave the home routine for sure when I have been away for too long. I hope 2019 is a quieter, more peaceful year for you. :)
